Special audit and corporate responsibility
Independent reviews for demanding situations
When is the service needed?
A special audit may be needed in situations where the course of events, financial responsibilities, suspected misconduct, insolvency-related matters or the significance of electronic material require an independent review.
Special audits
Special audits are often needed in disputes, suspected misconduct and insolvency-related situations. Disputes may relate, for example, to post-transaction matters, breaches of contract or the assessment of financial loss.
We can assist, for example, with:
- Investigating suspected misconduct
- Financial reviews related to disputes
- Assessing insolvency-related situations
- Reviews related to bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings
- Tracing funds or assets
- Assessing the amount of loss or damage
- Expert opinions
- Expert witness work
Insolvency-related situations
In corporate insolvency situations, creditors, bankruptcy administrators and restructuring administrators need accurate and reliable information to support decision-making. A special audit can help assess, for example, recovery actions, transfers of funds, asset arrangements and management actions.
Possible assignments include, for example:
- Assessment of recovery actions
- Identification of artificial asset arrangements
- Tracing assets transferred beyond the reach of creditors
- Asset valuations
- Reviews of bankruptcy estate accounting
- Reviews of the period preceding restructuring
Corporate responsibility and working conditions assessments
Responsibility is part of a company’s credibility, risk management and operational resilience. We help companies assess risks related to social responsibility and ensure that practices concerning the use of workforce are responsible, lawful and able to withstand external review.
Our services focus especially on working conditions and social responsibility. These include, for example, employees’ rights, foreign employees’ right to work in Finland, risks of work-related exploitation, and responsible working practices in the company’s own operations and supply chain.
When is an assessment needed?
A corporate responsibility and working conditions assessment may be needed when a company wants to:
- identify risks related to social responsibility
- assess foreign employees’ right to work in Finland
- examine risks of work-related exploitation or human trafficking
- assess the appropriateness of working conditions, pay or housing arrangements
- verify responsible practices in its own operations or supply chain
- support sustainability reporting, compliance with statutory obligations or the prevention of the grey economy
How is the assessment carried out?
We carry out company-specific and site-specific assessments across different industries. The work is based on confidential interviews, document review and independent expert assessment.
The assessment may cover, for example:
- ecruitment and recruitment practices
- work duties and right to work
- pay and terms of employment
- working hours and the appropriateness of working conditions
- housing arrangements
- free-time conditions
- employees’ opportunities to seek help and use legal remedies
Outcome and expertise
As the outcome of the assignment, the client receives a report for management use. The report brings together the key findings, risk assessment and, where needed, development recommendations. The purpose of the report is to provide a clear and independent view of where potential risks lie and what should be corrected, monitored or documented more carefully going forward.
We have developed and carried out social responsibility assessments for nearly ten years. Our work combines independent assessment, practical investigation work and an understanding of risks related to corporate responsibility, workforce use and the prevention of the grey economy.
